Guide
Choose one of 71 official running records from 50m to 100km and enter your time to compare the time gap, average speeds and your virtual position when the record holder finishes.
Your result is compared with the selected record over exactly the same distance. The time gap is your time − record time. Average speed in kilometres per hour is distance in metres ÷ time in seconds × 3.6. The speed ratio is your average speed ÷ record average speed × 100.
The virtual race position uses your speed in metres per second × record time. It estimates where you would be when the record holder crosses the finish line. The remaining virtual distance is the full event distance minus that position.
The selected record is 9.58 seconds. A 16.00-second run is 6.42 seconds behind. Your average speed is 22.5 km/h, while the record average is 37.58 km/h. Your speed ratio is therefore 59.9%. At a constant average speed, you would have covered 59.9m when the record holder finishes, leaving 40.1m.
The catalogue contains 71 senior records spanning 50m to 100km: short-track events from 50m through 5000m, including the 50m hurdles, 1000m and mile, outdoor track events, and road races through 100km. Choose the exact event and category shown; marks from different competition contexts are not interchangeable. Short-track and outdoor records are separated where World Athletics distinguishes them. Women’s road entries also state whether the ratified record applies to a mixed race or a women-only race.
The charts compare whole-race averages. They do not model reaction time, acceleration, peak speed, pacing changes, wind, elevation, surface, weather or fatigue. The milestone line merely divides the required time reduction into four equal mathematical steps; it is not a personalised training plan, prediction or guarantee.
The catalogue is checked against the official World Athletics records portal and ratification notices. Each record includes an official source link and last verification date. When a mark changes, its record status and competition category are reviewed before the controlled catalogue is updated; the tool does not rely on an unreviewed live scrape.
This independent calculator cannot certify a performance or declare a world record. Timing, wind, venue, course, eligibility and ratification requirements must be confirmed by the relevant governing body.
High-effort running can carry injury and health risks. Warm up, prepare for the distance, use a safe course and seek professional advice before an attempt if you have a health concern.
